Bull Run 1: McLean Farm
On July 27 1861, this farm house belonged to William McLean. The first Battle of Bull Run was fought on his property. Seeking to avoid further conflict, he moved his family far from Washington D.C. to Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia. Almost exactly four years later, Lee and Grant met in the parlor of Mr. McLean's house in Appomattox Courthouse to sign Lee's surrender.
